About this print:
"The Shoals of Herring" is my homage to the fisher-folk of the East coast, from Aberdeenshire (where I was raised) all the way down to Great Yarmouth, where fishwives and herring girls from the North East of Scotland would arrive in droves each year, following the fleets of herring boats down to work on the fish production lines there. Storytelling traditions are still strong where I grew up, with numerous songs and tales about the exploits of fishermen, whalers and lonesome women scanning the cold north sea for signs of loves lost - I've tried to channel all of this into one intricate lino block filled with hand-carved vignettes, some fantastical and some firmly rooted in the harbours, waves and hardships of the coast. The title is borrowed from a song by folk legend Ewan McColl - my family used to sing it when I was young, and still do now...
This large-scale (A2), intricately detailed linocut was carved by hand from on my own original illustration, and exhibited by the Seaford Contemporary Illustrators and Printmakers (https://www.wearescip.co.uk/) in the summer of 2019, where it hung alongside some amazing pieces from the likes of Quentin Blake, Paul Thurlby, Owen Davey, and textile designer Donna Wilson (plus loads more brilliant people!).
This piece is printed in a dark teal-blue using vivid, light-fast Caligo oil-based relief inks on ivory-coloured, handmade Mitsumata paper (60gsm), flecked with natural fibres. Due to the handmade nature of this paper, no two prints are exactly the same and some small flaws/areas of texture are to be expected in the paper itself - in my opinion, this only enhances the tactile character of the print.

CAN I TRACK MY ORDER?
For peace of mind (mine and yours...), my default shipping is now TRACKED for both UK and International orders.
You will receive a tracking number when your order is posted - please check your junk mail folder as they sometimes end up there!
If you wish to opt out of tracking on your package, please email me with your order number and I will adjust your shipping price (in most cases it saves between £1 and £3).
HOW WILL MY ORDER BE PACKAGED?
WHAT POSTAL SERVICE DO YOU USE?
The good old Royal Mail!
In the UK, I send all packages via the Tracked 48 service, and everywhere else I use Royal Mail International Tracked delivery unless otherwise stated in the print description.
CAN YOU GET IT TO ME QUICKER?
If you need your prints in a hurry I may be able to arrange delivery with a private courier such as Hermes, Parcelforce, DPD etc. Please note that there is likely to be an additional postage charge for this, as these services are often more expensive than Royal Mail delivery.
HELP! I'VE CHANGED MY MIND... CAN I RETURN A PRINT?
Provided they are in perfect, saleable condition and still in their original packaging, you can return unwanted prints to me, though I'm afraid you'll need to pay for the return postage. Please contact me before you return anything so I can approve the return and confirm any relevant details.
HELP! MY PRINT WAS DAMAGED IN TRANSIT...
Please contact me straight away if your print has been damaged in transit (pictures are helpful), and where possible I will sort out a replacement ASAP.
When it's not possible to sort out a replacement, I will refund the full cost of the print including postage.
HELP! MY PRINT HASN'T ARRIVED!
Occasionally prints can go astray in the postal system, especially when travelling internationally. There can be many reasons for the delay, and I've found that most do turn up eventually (often after a little stopover in customs somewhere).
Please allow up to 28 days for your print to arrive, but do contact me to let me know that you've not received your order within the timeframe outlined above. Where possible, I'll track it down and give you an updated arrival estimate. If it really has gone missing, I'll either send out a replacement (if possible) or issue a full refund, as you prefer.
